Hmm... What could be better than Madonna?

3. The Queen Is Dead

When I was teenager my brother tried to introduce me a band called The Smiths. ”You have to like them” he said, ”they even have this albm called 'Meat is Murder'.” That was the time when I had just became vegetarian so I should have been interested. But no, I didn't care about The Smiths. At that time I liked more punk. Or Janis Joplin. The Smiths sounded very boring to me. (Yes, I know, just shoot me now.) I was one of those stupid girls who didn't believe their brothers but who did believe their boyfriends. So later when I met this band second time I started to like them. First only a little bit but later more and more. And now, as you can see, they are number three in my all time favourite-list.

Of course I love Morrissey's lyrics but I really think those lyrics need Johnny Marr's music with them. That's why I don't like only Morrissey as much as I love The Smiths. (And now I have to confess that actually I have no idea what Johnny Marr is doing nowadays. Can someone tell me should I get familiar with his music too?)

And yes, of course I should put here lyrics from song ”Cemetry Gates” because Morrissey is singing there about Keats, Yeats and Wilde but instead I will put here one of the saddest and the most beautiful love songs ever...

There Is a Light That Never Goes Out

Take me out tonight
Where there's music and there's people
And they're young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
Anymore

Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and I
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please don't drop me home
Because it's not my home, it's their
Home, and I'm welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
And in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
(But then a strange fear gripped me and I
Just couldn't ask)

Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one...
Oh, I haven't got one

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

Oh, There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out
